Welcome to the Neuroscience and Cell Biology Lab at CDFD Hyderabad India
One of the fundamental questions of neurobiology is to understand how neural stem cells (NSCs) generate different types of neurons and glial cells in space and time during development. The perturbations affecting the cellular diversity in CNS are likely to result in developmental defects (microcephaly), neurodegenerative conditions (like Huntington's disease), or pediatric brain tumors.
Drosophila CNS and NSCs are excellent models for studying stem cell biology and development. Our group is mainly working to understand the following sub-themes: 1. How is cellular diversity generated during brain development? How are cellular phenomena like quiescence, proliferation, differentiation, and apoptosis of NSCs coordinated/regulated in a region-specific manner to generate the precise number of neurons and glial cells during the development of CNS? 2. How spatial and temporal cues are integrated with extrinsic signals and intrinsic cellular states to regulate neuronal number and diversity during development? We employ a combination of cell biology, biochemistry, genetics and whole-genome approaches. Our main tools of choice are Drosophila molecular genetics, microscopy, CRISPR mediated genome manipulation, and NGS (ChIP-Seq and RNA-Seq).
